It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of William Craig, Jr., affectionately known to all as "Poke," who departed this world on March 31, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on August 11, 1960, in Selma, Alabama, Poke was a beacon of strength, resilience, and love, whose life was a testament to the power of hard work and dedication.
A proud member of the Selma High School Class of 1978, Poke carried his high school spirit into his life's work as a General Contractor. He excelled in carpentry, painting, and all things construction, leaving behind not just buildings, but legacies crafted by his own hands. His work was more than a job—it was his art, and he painted his passion into each project.
Poke's warmth and dedication extended far beyond his professional life. He was an excellent father and grandfather, deeply devoted to his family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy, and he loved them dearly. Despite life's challenges, his love remained steadfast and unwavering, a shining example of what it means to be a family man.
Preceded in death by his beloved son, Kevin Craig, Poke leaves behind a family that cherishes his memory and continues to be inspired by his legacy. He is survived by his children: Sgt. First Class Marcus (Kathleen) Craig of San Antonio, TX, and Shanetta Craig of Selma, AL. His siblings include Linda (Pastor Joseph) Coleman of Selma, AL, Anthony (Roselyn) Craig of Huntsville, AL, Alice Craig of Selma, AL, and Kerry (Felecia) Craig of Selma, AL. His three grandchildren, La'Markus Craig, Katelyn Craig, and Kevin Craig, all of San Antonio, TX, will carry forward the lessons and love he imparted.
Poke's special friend and the mother of his children, Ms. Onetta Craig, remains a cherished part of his story, illustrating a life rich in relationships and love.
As we say goodbye to Poke, we remember a man whose life was filled with purpose, whose heart was filled with kindness, and whose presence touched the lives of all who knew him. His spirit will forever inspire those he leaves behind, reminding us of the power of love and the importance of family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
