Sophie Ellis was born in Dallas County on March 8, 1938, to the late Willie Perry, Sr. and the late Carrie Smith. Sophie began her Christian walk at an early age and served in may roles including usher and Pastor’s Aide treasurer to name a few. Prior to uniting with the Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ocie Acoff, she was under the spiritual leadership of Reverend R. L. Flowers, Sr. at both Providence Baptist Church Orrville and Shiloh Baptist Church, East Selma. She was called by God to her eternal rest on December 25, 2025.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Dora Woodyard and Collins Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter: Cassandra L. Bell of Birmingham, AL. siblings: James (Brenda) Perry of Fayetteville, NC, Betty Ann (Bruce) Perry of Beloit, AL, Willie Perry, Jr., Thomas Louis Perry, and Gregory Perry of Atlanta, GA;
She will be forever loved and remembered by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and special friends: Geraldine Murphy and Ruth Jackson; caregiver: Essie Pullom.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 1:00PM from the Union Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Ocie Acoff, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Live Oak Cemetery with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service.
