Sherman Wayne “Pete” Walker was born May 4, 1956, in Selma, Alabama, to Willie Walker, Jr. and Louise Hinton Walker. He was called home to glory on June 12, 2026 following a series of health issues. He is preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents Perry Hinton and Elizabeth Minter, paternal grandparents Ernest Mitchell and Minnie Walker, aunts Etha Brown, Ada McCollough, Ruby Doss and Addie Mae Sturdivant, uncles Mason “Pep”, Cephus, and Donald “Doonanny” Walker and Albert Hinton, and his partner Etta Turner.

Pete spent most of his life in Selma, excluding a brief stay in Anderson, Indiana and the past few years in Montgomery where he succumbed. He is a graduate of Selma High School, Class of 1975. Pete worked at the American Candy for several years until it closed. He later worked at the Warren Oil Company. Pete was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching various sports on TV. He was typically quiet and easy going but had a great sense of humor and periodically would come out of his shell with witty remarks.

Pete is survived by his brothers, Willie “Bo” (Pat) Walker of Chattanooga, TN, Clarence “Toot” (Jacque) Walker of Anderson, Indiana, his daughter Tameka Walker, who was his primary caretaker, his former wife Mary Walker, grandchildren Michael Walker, Jamilia Walker, Shakeria Walker, Zaniah Walker, Diamond Walker, Martavius Walker and, Zyakemia Walker, nine great grandchildren, a niece and four nephews. He enjoyed a special relationship with Etta’s children Lisa Wilson, Sara Turner, Charlotte Turner and Charles Turner.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 12:30PM from the Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service.
