Rita Susan “Sue” Hunter age 65 of Selma, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at her home. She was born in Clanton, Alabama on February 28, 1960 to the late Lyron “Leighton” Gandy, Sr. and the late Betty Jean Ousley Gandy.
Sue loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was the centerpiece of her family. Sue was dedicated to her children, spending time with her grandchildren, tending to her home, working a full time job, entertaining friends, and living her life to the fullest. She enjoyed going to yard sales, listening to good music, cooking, being a part of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Selma VFW. She will always be remembered as the one that held the family together.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband of 41 years, Mark Hunter; her children, Christy (Richard) Johnson, Brandon Madison, and Marcus Hunter; grandchildren, Caroline Johnson, Logan Madison, Kayleigh Hunter, Mary Johnson, and Abby Johnson; siblings, Leighton “Shorty” (Tonya) Gandy, Jr., Kenneth “Cookie” Gandy, Jeff (Betty Sue) Gandy, Sharron Lawrence, Richard Gandy, and Travis Gandy; best friend/cousin/sister, Delene Smith; mother-in-law, Lois Hunter; brother-in-law, Mike Hunter; sisters-in-law, Connie Hill, Cindy Burnette (Christy Dee), and Crystal Hunter; aunts, Linda Paulk and Barbara Skelton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leighton and Betty Gandy; and her father-in-law, E.F. “Bubba” Hunter.
At Sue’s request a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Final arrangements are entrusted to Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home of Selma.
