Mrs. Pennsylvania Smith Garrett was born on March 9, 1950, to Gus and Pennsylvania Smith. She attended E. M. Brown Training School. Pennsylvania confessed Christ at an early age and joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Minter, Alabama. She departed this life on November 13, 2025, at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery Alabama.

Mrs. Pennsylvania was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Pennsylvania Smith: her husband, Sammy Garrett Jr.; her brothers, James, Jerry, Gus Jr, and Timothy; sisters, Bobbie Carter, Mandy Clark, and Frances Allison

On December 23, 1971, she married Sammy Garrett Jr. and together they had two children. After their marriage, she moved to Selma, Alabama, where she joined Good Hope Baptist. She dedicated many years to serving the church faithfully in her duties until her health declined.

Throughout her life, she worked for Selma Head Start, until she retired.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: one daughter, Michelle (Leon) Moore of Helena, Alabama; one son, Alfonso (Ashley) Garrett of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren, William Shamar Bonner, Quiana LaShae Moore, Leon Olanders (Layla) Moore Jr, Jamecia Moore; one great-grandchild, Nova Estrella Moore; one sister, Judy Bell Smith of Selma; brothers-in-law, Jerry Allison and Melvin (Sallie) Garrett both of Sardis, Alabama, Hosea (Nevel) of Selma, Alabama, Hubert (Pamela) Garrett of Trussville, Alabama, Milton (Linda Faye) Garrett and Willie (Suzanne) Garrett both of Huntsville, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Maple Smith of Sardis, Alabama, Roberta Smith of Selma, Ganell (Jimmy) Ingram of Middleburg, Florida and Shirley (Levente) Stewart of Birmingham, Alabama; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11:00am from the Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend John L. Ward officiating.  A full obituary will be posted at a later date. Interment will follow in the Pineview Memory Gardens with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service.   Mrs. Garret will lie in repose one hour prior the funeral hour at the church.
