Pastor Michael Gordon Sr was born  August 11, 1966, to Ruth Gordon Hollman and Walter Hollman Jr.  He dedicated his life to Christ at New Sister Spring at the age of 11 years old. Michael graduated from Southside High School in 1984. He continued his education at Wallace Community College. He then served in the United State Navy for 8 years.  Followed by a career at the United States Postal Service, where he retired after 13 years.

After retirement, he continued to serve his community by Rise and Recover, a non profit organization providing recovery services to adults, youth, and families in Selma and throughout Dallas County, Alabama. In his role as a Peer Recovery Specialist, he worked directly with adults participating in the agency's various programs, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. In addition, Pastor Gordon was a dedicated facilitator for the Habilitation Empowerment Accountability Therapy (HEAT) program where he worked with youth on probation and in the detention center. Pastor Gordon served faithfully in these roles for approximate four years and volunteered for countless years before that…His commitment, compassion, and steadfast service, practical real-life application and lived experience has left a lasting impact on the lives of those he worked with and the community as a whole.

He faithfully served as Head Pastor of Zion #1 MP Church for 7 years, leading with unwavering faith, compassion, and deep love for his congregation. During his time in ministry, he touched countless lives through his powerful sermons, heartfelt prayers, and steadfast guidance. His leadership not only strengthened the church but also fostered a spirit of unity, hope, and service within the community. His legacy of faith and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Michael was a deeply spirited man who shared God’s love with others. He was an inspiration to all that knew him and was loved and admired by many. The impact of Michael’s life will be felt for years to come. If Michael was not sharing his love of God you could catch him cutting grass, painting, carpentry, being owner of a local carwash, and assisting anyone who needed help. In his free time which was not often he enjoyed the peacefulness of being at home with his family.  Michael was an example of a man driven by his purpose and faith in God. He always challenged those around him to be the best versions of themselves.

Michael Gordon Sr. departed this earthly home on Saturday August 9th peacefully at his residence.

Michael is proceeded in death by his Mother Ruth Gordon Hollman, brothers Rodney Hollman and Darrell Hollman, sister Bernestine Gordon,  sons Malik Palmer and Tyler Griffin. And his beloved dog Tay Tay.
