Monay Shameeka “Mo” Ross, a brilliant, joyful, and deeply cherished daughter, mother, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend, transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the age of 38. Born in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Selma, Alabama, Monay grew into a woman whose faith, compassion, creativity, and vibrant spirit touched countless lives across the country.

From early childhood, Monay displayed remarkable artistic talent. She was a gifted African dancer in East Selma, performing with a group of exceptionally talented young ladies many of whom would go on to pursue dance as their life’s calling. Those years shaped her confidence, discipline, and love for the arts, and she carried those memories with her for the rest of her life. Monay was also active in music and proudly marched in the Southside High School band, where her rhythm, energy, and passion stood out. Though she once dreamed of taking her dance and musical talents to the next level, she chose instead to extend those gifts to a higher purpose mentoring her daughter and inspiring other young girls to find their voices, creativity, and confidence through the arts.

Monay continued her academic journey beyond high school with determination and excellence at Auburn University, Georgia State University, and Kennesaw State University. Professionally, she built an extraordinary career as a Senior Software Instructional Designer, sharing her expertise with some of the largest healthcare systems in the United States. Her work took her to nearly every major U.S. city, where her intelligence, leadership, and joyful spirit left a lasting imprint on colleagues nationwide.

Yet among all her roles, the one she cherished most was being a mother.

Her daughter, Olivia, was the light of her life, her pride, her inspiration, and her purpose. Monay recognized Olivia’s early artistic gift especially her extraordinary talent as a painter and she dedicated herself fully to nurturing that gift. Through encouragement, exposure, and unwavering support, Monay guided Olivia to artistic achievement, including recognition at the Montgomery Shakespeare Festival Arts Gala. Together, they were inseparable, sharing a beautiful relationship built on love, creativity, and shared dreams.

Monay’s love did not stop with her daughter. She maintained deep, meaningful friendships in both Selma and Atlanta, where she built lifelong bonds with people who became family through love, loyalty, and shared experiences. Her circle included friends she had known since childhood, schoolmates, coworkers, and community members who admired her infectious joy, humor, and generosity.

She shared a special, unbreakable bond with her mother, who was her source of strength and spiritual foundation. Her relationships with her sisters were filled with love, laughter, and mutual understanding they were not just siblings but best friends. Her connection with her brother was also profound, defined by loyalty, protection, and genuine affection. And to her nieces and nephews, she was more than an aunt; she was a guiding light, a mentor, and a second mother whose influence will shape their lives forever.

Affectionately known as “Mo,” she brightened every room she entered. Her laughter carried warmth, her insight carried wisdom, and her presence carried comfort. She lived life boldly, generously, and with a heart anchored in faith. Her personal ministry was kindness lifting others, inspiring them, and making them feel seen and valued.

Monay leaves behind her precious daughter Olivia, her loving mother, her devoted sisters, her brother, her adored nieces and nephews, her extended family, and a wide community of friends from Selma, Atlanta, and across the United States who will forever cherish her memory. Though her passing brings profound sorrow, we rejoice in knowing she is now at peace resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father and embraced by Jesus Christ.  Monay Shameka “Mo” Ross lived a life filled with purpose, artistry, faith, laughter, and love and her legacy continues to shine brightly through her daughter, her family, and every life she touched.  Monay Shameka “Mo” Ross lived a life filled with purpose, artistry, faith, laughter, and love and her legacy continues to shine brightly through her daughter, her family, and every life she touched.
