Born September 11, 1983, in the warm embrace of Dallas County, Alabama, Michael Shane Hatfield — known to all simply as Shane — took his final bow on August 25, 2025, at the age of 41. Though his time with us was brief, we are left with memories of Shane that leave us smiling and remembering the blessing that he was to all who knew him.
Shane was quite the character, and a few things can be said with absolute certainty: he never met a movie he didn't watch, a garden he couldn't tame, or a grill he didn't master. His green thumb was legendary, and his yard work was nothing short of botanical poetry. Shane's yard was a canvas where flowers bloomed with the same vibrancy as his personality. And let’s not forget his culinary magic on the grill, where he turned barbecues into feasts fit for kings, all while sneaking bites of chocolate and ice cream when no one was looking.
A proud "Momma’s Boy," Shane lived to make his mother, Rhonda Hall, beam with pride. He was a natural encourager and had an uncanny ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him. Surprises were his specialty, and his sharp wit kept everyone on their toes. One could never predict what delightfully unexpected quip or antic he might spring next.
Preceded in death by his father, Kerry S. Hatfield; grandparents, Betty and Alan Winston Cale; and uncle, Mike Harper, Shane now joins them in eternal rest, surely sharing a laugh and a story or two.
Shane's heart was as big as his love for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and his affection for friends and family was rivaled only by his devotion to his feline companion, Tom. A baptized believer from a young age, Shane's faith was as steadfast as his love for life. He leaves behind a loving circle of family and friends, including his cherished mother, Rhonda Cale Hall; his sister, Crystal Rheaume; and his adored best friend, Marcus "Wood" Underwood. His loving aunt Sharron "Bell RR" Gandy and uncle Jeffery Lynn Cale. Shane also doted on his niece, Catherine Perry, and nephew, Nolan Alan Rheaume, whom he encouraged just as he did everybody else.
Though Shane's journey has reached its end, his spirit endures in the hearts of those who knew him. A private service will be held at a later date, where stories will be swapped, laughter shared, and his life celebrated as he would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, perhaps fire up a grill, plant a flower, or watch a classic film in his honor. We think Shane would find that fittingly hilarious.
