Mr. Michael "Mike", Cherry, 63, of Selma, Alabama, was the 2nd born son of the Late Arthur Clinton "AC", Cherry and Almeda Willoughby Cherry. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church, Sardis, Alabama.
During his primary and secondary years of growth, he was educated in the Selma City schools, the Alabama Lutheran Academy, then later, he applied and continued his education in Job Corp, located in Breckinridge, Kentucky, where he completed a General Education Development Program (GED), and a Welding Certification. Throughout Michael's life, he believed in working to earn money, which included having a Newspaper route in Selma. He also assisted one of his favorite teachers in her yard and worked as a handyman around her house. Eventually, he gained full-time employment and worked with several companies in Selma, such as Global Security Glazing and Eovation in Dallas County, where he retired in April 2025 and picked up gardening as a hobby and that kept him busy.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Frances Cherry, Father: Arthur Clinton "AC" Cherry, Mother: Almeda Willoughby Cherry, Brother: Wesley Ezell Willoughby, Son-in-love: Gatrick Terrell Lewis, and Grand Parents, Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted son: Kendal Jamal Smith, brothers: Arthur Clinton Cherry, Jr. of Enid, Oklahoma; Quinton Cherry of Selma, Alabama; Sisters: Rita Cherry Williams, Cassandra Cherry (Robert) Smith, and Gloria Minor all of Selma, Alabama; Rachel Cherry (Nivory Jr.) Gordon of Snow Hill, Alabama; Uncle: Lawrence (Sharon) Willoughby of Detroit, Michigan; Aunts: Nancy Pearson of Youngstown, Ohio; and Velma (Cleveland) Thomas of Detroit, Michigan; Nephews: Antawn Renard Willoughby, Jeffrey Earl Cherry, Dwayne Minor, Nivory Gordon III, and Bryant Arthur Gordon;
Nieces: Nelvia A. Cherry (Todd) Bullock, Calandra Almeda Willoughby, Jessica Cherry, LaShundra Weaver, and Emily Grace Smith; twelve (12) Great Nephews and Great Nieces, three (3) Great- Great Nieces, a Special friend; a devoted cousin: Terrance Willoughby, and a host of other loving cousins, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM from Mt. Olive #2 of Sardis, AL. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home of Selma. Mr. Cherry will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church.
