Master Sergeant Herman Lee Crawford, Jr., affectionately known to many as “Poonie” or “Ice Kold” was born on August 8, 1964 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Herman Crawford, Sr., and Lula Davis Crawford (Tommy Lee) Jackson.
He was called home on Monday, May 5, 2025 in Huntsville, Alabama.
He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Selma, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herman Crawford, Lula & Tommy Jackson; Uncles William and James Davis; Aunts Eva Davis Huntington and Geraldine Davis; Grandparents Pelham and Lillie Davis Bolgin; Nephew Andrew Lee Shelton, Jr.
He was a 1983 graduate of Selma High School and served four years in the United States Army before continuing to serve four additional years in the United States Navy. He further continued his service to our country in the Army Reserves until his retirement. Following his military career, Herman was a faithful postal worker for 28 years beginning in Selma, AL. He continued his work with the US Postal Service in South Carolina until his retirement.
Herman leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Dejuan Crawford of Huntsville, AL and Davion Crawford of Stone Mountain, GA who loved and adored him unconditionally; one sister, Cynthia Crawford (Charles) Marshall of Selma, AL; one nephew Kerry Shelton, Sr.; two nieces Andrea (Collins) Barley and Katara (Major) Irby both of Selma, AL; four great nieces Londyn, Ava, Tori, and Xylah all of Selma, AL; nine great nephews Quaden, Collion, Colleerion, Xayden, Ramon, Ralen, Lariso, Kerry, Jr., and Ka’Shmir. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives. His childhood friends, Spencer, Chris, Levelle, and Alvin; a special friend Kristy Johnson
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11:00AM from the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Davon Simpson, officiating. Burial will follow in The Lorenzo Harrison Memorial Gardens with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service. Mr. Crawford will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church.
