Loretta Yvonne Davis-Mathieu passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. She was born on October 16, 1958, in Selma, Alabama, to Willie and Mary Davis.

Loretta was raised in Selma, Alabama, where she attended R.B. Hudson Middle-High School/Selma High School. From an early age, she developed a heart for caring for others—a calling that would define her life. As a devoted mother, she dedicated herself fully to raising and caring for her children, three of whom required her full-time love and attention.

Her purpose work was rooted in compassion and service. In 1999, Loretta earned her Nursing Assistant license in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She went on to faithfully serve at Walker Elder Suites for over 10 years, where she became known for her exceptional care, kindness, and dedication. Loretta received numerous recognitions, including Employee of the Month on multiple occasions. She was often described by employers and family as a “caring individual with a selfless heart who always goes above and beyond the call of duty for others.”

In 1995, Loretta married Duke Mathieu in Minneapolis, Minnesota, bringing together a blended family. She instilled in her family the values of love, resilience, and faith—principles she lived by daily.

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved children, Henry Davis and Tara Davis.

She also joins in eternal rest her siblings: Dorthy R. Young, Mary E. Marks, Albert C. Jackson, Ethel M. Hunter, Mattie L. Robinson, Willie L. Davis, Doris J. Davis, Patricia A. Travler, and Roy R. Davis.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Duke Mathieu; her children, Angela Davis, Naomi Daniels, Shalonda Davis McMeans, Sherrell Davis, Meyer Davis, Veniese Mathieu, Muilund Mathieu, and Jeremiah Mathieu; and her adopted son and grandson, Henry James II. She also leaves her siblings, Leila Towns, Joseph Griffin, Archie Griffin, and Naomi Griffin; and her beloved sister, Verba L. Wesley, with whom she shared a close and special bond.

Loretta gave her life to Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She found joy in reading her Bible, singing gospel hymns, and sharing the love of God with everyone she encountered. She was known for her compassionate and forgiving spirit—always choosing to love, restore, and uplift others, no matter the circumstance.

She believed deeply in the importance of family and taught her children and grandchildren the value of “sticking together” through all of life’s challenges. Loretta thrived on love, family, community, support, and living a life for God. Everyone who came in contact with her experienced her love, care, and understanding.

Loretta had a vibrant spirit and found joy in cooking, singing, decorating, dancing, and helping others. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom considered her one of their favorite aunts.

Loretta’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Brittany Alowonle, Tomesha Caldwell, Antonine Daniels, Christopher Daniels, Jaylin Davis-Starks, Gabriel Davis-Vasser, Ahjalah Scott, Nevaeh Madison, Kameron Davis-Zanders, Carnail Stokes, Essence Porter, Michael Porter, Israel Jennings, Alijah Daniels, Alexander Daniels, Lincoln George, Heaven Davis, Henry, Siriana Torrence-Davis,  Aliyah Davis, and Zhyaire King-Davis.

She was also the proud great-grandmother of over 20 great-grandchildren. Loretta had the blessing of meeting and holding each of them—one of her greatest joys and a legacy she held close to her heart.

Her life was a testament to selfless love, unwavering faith, and the power of family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 1:00PM from the East Salem Baptist Church where Reverend James Mitchell serves as pastor and Apostle Carnail Stokes, will be officiating.  Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service.  Mrs. Davis-Mathieu will have no viewing at the funeral home.  However, she will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church.
