Lillie Edwards Obituary

Mother Lillie Mae Sanders age 90 of Perry County, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Valley Grande, Alabama. She was born on Monday, December 3, 1934, in Centerville, Alabama to Mr. Nick & Mattie Cleveland. She was a faithful member of Marietta A.M. E. Zion Church until her health failed. In Lillie’s younger life she married her childhood sweetheart Holy Matrimony to Mr. John Sanders and to this union 2 children were born Joanne and Bobby Sanders who preceded her in death. Lillie later found love again and joined in Holy Matrimony to Freddie Edwards and to this union 3 children were born Dianne (Lewis), Freddie (Sandra), and Jimmy Edwards (who precedes her in death). Later in life Lillie found the true love of her life Mr. Sam King (who precedes her in death) and to this union one child was born Sandra Blackmon. Lillie was a devoted mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. Lillie was a true friend who touched the lives of so many. Lillie loved singing and praising the Lord, serving the needs of others. Lillie leaves to cherish her memories 3 children: Dianne (Lewis) Lee of Selma, AL, Freddie (Sandra) Edwards of Brent, AL, Sandra (Lovester) Blackmon Montgomery, AL. 15 Grand Children A granddaughter to whom she cherished as her own Stephanie (Antonio) Shelton of Valley Grande, AL, Marcus (Shenita) Towns Tuscaloosa, AL. Adrienne (Melvin) Watts of Sunshine, Florida, JaQuita, Ladarious Anderson of Brent, AL, Chadwick Benjamin of Selma, AL, Devarious (Kennisha) Benjamin of Selma, AL, Arthur Montgomery, Jarvis, Brittany and Brandon Blackmon of Montgomery, AL. 23 Great Grands Ashley Towns, David Devone, Stephon Devone of Valley Grande, AL, Amani Shelton, Fulani Shelton of Smyrna, TN, Damien Towns Makayla Towns, Kiara Perry of Tuscaloosa, AL, Asher Montgomery, Laylon Jones, CJ Benjamin, of Montgomery, AL, Niah Benjamin, Abigal Carter of Selma, AL, Tydarius Watts, Nidarius Watts, Jadarius Watts, Kendarius Watts, King Watts, BreAsha Brown, Shayra Brooks, Cameron Brooks of Sunshine, FL, Raelyn Anderson, Maylea Anderson of Brent, AL. 2 Great Great Grands Jaxxon Tate, Waylon Towns of Valley Grande, AL. A Special nephew Jeffrey Cleveland of Huntsville, AL. 1 brother Grady Cleveland of Selma, AL. 2 sisters Ollie Mae Carter of Detroit, MI, Annie Kornegay of Selma, AL. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special friends: Danny and Carolyn Jones. Lillie was proceeded in death by her Johnnie Mae Ellis, Beatrice Cleveland, Dorothy Melton and Brothers Tommy Lee Cleveland, Rev. L.C. Cleveland, Otis Cleveland, James Cleveland.

 

Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 12:00pm from the Potter's Place Church with Bishop Patrick E. Bonner Sr., officiating.  Interment will follow in the Marrietta Church cemetery in Perry County, AL with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service. 

Ms. Edwards will lie in repose an hour before the service.
