Lee Anna Brantley Obituary

LeeAnna “Sweet” Brantley was born in Selma, Alabama on August 28, 1942.  She is the only child of Melvin Norris and Estella Phillips, who both preceded her in death.  She dedicated her life to our family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and sweet chocolate candies that were “ALWAYS” available in a special candy dish.  She was just as “SWEET” to her family and friends as the candies were to everyone who visited her beautiful home.  That’s why her nickname from a child through her adult life was “SWEET”.

LeeAnna was a lifelong resident of Selma, Alabama and attended the Selma City Schools.  She graduated from Hudson High School in 1960.  She was a stellar student and a dynamic majorette in the Hudson High School Band.  She is also known for her angelic voice.  Many will remember her singing one of her favorite songs, My God is Real.  Our “SWEET” songbird will never be forgotten.

LeeAnna worked in the retail industry for over 40 years and retired in 1998.  She is most remembered for her beautiful smile, joyful personality, beautiful jewelry, and professional attire.  To say the least, she was the epitome of an African Queen.

She loved the Lord and for many years served faithfully at two churches: New Hope Baptist Church, which was the church where she grew up serving the Lord and Ward Chapel A.M.E Church, which was the church where her husband, Daniel (Dan) Rueben Brantley faithfully served.

Dan preceded her in death, but they were a daring duo for 65 years.  They dedicated their lives to raising a blended family.  The Lord blessed their union with three sons:  Daniel Brantley, Jr. (Tammy), David Brantley (Rosalind), and Darryl Brantley (Frances).  As a result of death in the family, Dan and LeeAnna were blessed with three daughters and another son.  They raised these children as their own:   Tracey Shannon (Jack), Lynne Jiles (Sam), Monica Marshall and John Reese (Dorothy).  Each child had their very own “special place” in the hearts of Dan and LeeAnna.

Her legacy of love, strength, and resilience will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry their memories in their heart forever: Daniel Brantley, Jr.: Darius; David Brantley: Anthony Mcknight (Markeisa); Darryl Brantley, Jr.; Andre Lamar (Myeshia); LeeAnna Brantley-Jackson (Jahron); David Brantley, Jr.; Candace Murphy and Jamell Murphy.  Darryl Brantley: Rashad Brown (Takara), Kiana Hanna (Isaiah) and Davian Brantley; Tracey Shannon:  Jessica Snell (Earl); Lynne Jiles:  Tommisene (Nate), Ronald, Jamarius, Wendell;  Monica Marshall:  Keithon Marshall, Sean Davis (Destiny), Tracey Williams;  John:  (Kiera and Myechia)

Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children (Proverbs 17:6).  LeeAnna leaves to cherish her memory 18 great-grandchildren:  Mike: (Amiah, Ashanti, Anthony, Jr., Amarian , Taylor, and Jamycah; Raven and Josiah:  Darryl: Reagan and Berkley; Tracey:  Emersyn and Elyana; Lynne:  Roderick, Caleb, Jordyn Jacadyn and Wendell, Jr.; Monica: Bryson and Aylah; John: Calese and Chloe. Great-Great Grandchild:  Breyon Molette.

Although LeeAnna “Sweet” was an only child, she was never alone.  She was always surrounded by two cousins, Gertha Watts and Pat Sanders; four sisters in Christ, Lelia Underwood, Fannie Irby, Lillie Mae Masby, Sara Ann Powell and Willie Mae Deyampert.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Amos Allen; grandson, Jordan Lamar; and step mother-in-law Algie Brantley.
