Mrs. Jessie Tripp Cook, a faithful servant of God, was born on May 28, 1934, in Council (McKinnley), Alabama, to the late Mr. Percy Tripp, Sr. and Mrs. Alma Eaton Tripp.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and united with Bethel Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Her Christian journey continued at St. Paul Methodist Church in Selma, Alabama, and Mt. Nebo Methodist Church in Sardis, Alabama. In 1963, she joined Selmont Community Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
In 1943, the Tripp family moved to Selma, Dallas County, Alabama. Mrs. Cook, the oldest, received her education in the Selma City School System, graduating from R. B. Hudson High School. She later trained as a Physician Assistant at Selma Medical Associates and continued her career at West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center as a Nurse and Special Education Teacher for children ages birth to three.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Joseph Cook, son of Rev. George and Sarah Steave Cook, Sr. of Sardis, Alabama. From this union were born three children: the late Gloria Jean Cook Johnson, Marvin Louis Cook, Sr. (Alfreda), and Minister Sherri Lynn Cook, DMin.
She leaves cherished memories to eleven grandchildren: LaShundria(William Hurst) Cook, Alexis Cook, Marvin Cook, Jr., Melvin(Angel) Cook, Cobe Maul, LaKailyn(Terrell) Christian, Jerrell Cook, Diamond Cook, Allan Holt, Brandon Holt, and Madison Holt; fourteen great-grandchildren: Zachary Timmons, Caleb Cook, Amya Cook, Elijah Cook, Eion Cook, Nytalia Cook, Blayke Cook-Edgar, Bryce Cook-Dyson, Braxton Cook-Hanks, Makayla Christian and Makenzie
Christian; her loving siblings: Mary Tripp Williams, Memphis, TN, Ella Tripp, Selma, AL, Katie Tripp Winston, Desoto, TX, Moses Tripp, Pasdena, CA (Edward Tripp, Sr. and Percy Tripp, Jr. preceding her in death). In Laws: Daniel (Jean) Cook, Huntsville, AL; preceding in death: George(Annie) Cook, Jr., Claude Cook, David(Lois) Cook, Rev. Paul(Ruby) Cook, Rachael(Joe) Wright, Hattie(John) Rivers, Sarah(James) Reagors and Quintin(John) Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 12:00PM from the Selmont Community Baptist Church with Reverend Darrell McGuire, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in McKinnley, AL with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service. Mrs. Cook will lie in repose, at the church, one hour prior to the funeral hour.
