Mr. James Alton Hatfield,78, a man whose life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in Plantersville, Alabama, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family. Born on August 18, 1946, in Alabama, James was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him.

Growing up in the heart of Alabama, James was a beloved son of the late Albert C. Hatfield and Lula Dee Belcher.

James' life was graced with love when he married the late Mary Bender Hatfield, and together they shared an inspiring union that lasted 44 years until her passing. He was blessed with a loving daughter, Teresa I. Hayes (Glen), who brought him immense joy and pride. James' legacy continued to flourish through his grandchildren, Ashley Evans and Tyler Thrash, and his adoration for his family grew even deeper with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Lilliana, Kane, and Bella.

He was a beloved brother to Randy Hatfield (Renata) and Greg Hatfield (Sandy), who will hold dear the memories of the bond they shared. James also held a special place in his heart for his cousins, Don and Belinda Davis, who were not only relatives but true friends.

For more than 30 years, James dedicated his professional life to R.L. Zeigler's, where his commitment and work ethic were evident to all who worked alongside him. Upon retirement, he redirected his energies to what mattered most to him: his family. His days became filled with moments of shared stories, laughter, and the kind of wisdom that only a life well-lived can impart.

James's passion for his faith was unmistakable. He was a faithful member of the Summerfield Baptist Church, where his service went beyond mere attendance. For decades, he taught Sunday School, sharing his deep faith and understanding with those around him. His ability to bring the scriptures to life and apply their lessons to everyday challenges inspired many in his community.

Those who knew James would describe him as loving and faith-filled. His actions spoke of a man who not only believed in the goodness of the world but also acted to make it a better place. His love was a pillar of strength for his family and friends.

James' life was a journey marked by devotion—devotion to his family, his faith, and his community. From the rolling hills of Alabama to the sacred halls of his church, he walked a path of integrity and kindness.

Though he has departed from this earthly realm, the essence of James Alton Hatfield will forever linger in the hearts of his loved ones. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose and brimming with the love that he so freely gave to others. James' memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

There will be a memorial celebration of life in James’ honor Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00AM from the Summerfield Baptist Church with Pastor Ryan Skiebe, officiating.  In Lieu of flowers, please make donations in James’ honor to Summerfield Baptist Church.
