Master Jamarj Ledarious Acoff, 14, affectionately known as Jamarj, was a beacon of joy and to all who knew him. Born on March 2, 2010, in the historic city of Selma, Alabama, Jamarj lived a life marked by love until his untimely passing on February 15, 2025, Selma, AL.
Jamarj's early years were filled with the love and guidance of a large, close-knit family. He was the cherished son of Joe and Danielle Acoff, a caring brother to Cedriauna Eaton and Joe Louis Acoff, Jr., and a treasured special brother to Princess Waters. His extended family included his grandparents, Danny (Tamieka) Martin, Joe(Sandra) Mitchell, who instilled in him values of compassion and family. Jamarj's uncles and aunts, Stoney (Stacie) Pritchett, Jairious (Jessica) Acoff, Jocody (Johndekeita) Mitchell, Jacorey Mitchell, Terry Newberry, Latonya Harris, Shannon (Oscar) Murray, Kelsey Newberry, and Kameecka Newberry, as well as his special aunt Fetina Waters, held a special place in his heart. He also shared a profound bond with his special cousins, Jaleerreya Garrett, Jarrious Acoff, Jr., Jamarious Acoff, Raziyah Martin, Jakobe Mitchell, Braylon Smith, Markia Brooks, Homer Ward, III, Christopher Smiley, Makenzie Smith, Ryan Bean, and Sharyah Bean.
Jamarj's life was a testament to the love and memories he shared with his brothers Sharod Martin, Rodney Martin, Jr., and Rashod Martin, and his special friends I'Saionna Knight, JeRell Sample, Sr., and Christopher Fullenwilder. His legacy is also carried on by his special aunts, Monique Smith, Sharada Smith, and Latysha Mitchell. His presence will be profoundly missed by his classmates, friends, and the extensive family that surrounded him with love throughout his life.
Jamarj's journey was shaped by the memory of those who preceded him in passing, including his grandmother Pamela Pritchett Martin, bonus grandmother Lula Waters, great grandmothers Alice Mae Pritchett, Thelma Heard, Elizabeth Olds, and Charlie Mitchell, great grandfathers Oben Pritchell, Joe L. Mitchell, Sr., and Theopolis Martin, uncle Rodney Martin, Sr., great uncles Robert Mitchell, Ronny Martin, Donald Martin, great aunts Shelia Mitchell, Debbie Garrett, Norma Acoff, Sharon Mitchell, Cindy Acoff, Mary Davis, Evelyn Lakes, bonus brother Gerald Johnson, Jr., and special friend Au'Terrious "Bug" Walter. Each of them played a significant role in Jamarj's upbringing.
Despite his youth, Jamarj was known for his friendly disposition, a trait that endeared him to many. He attended Selma High School, where he was a member of the class of 2028, and where his absence will be deeply felt by all who anticipated witnessing the great achievements that lay ahead in his promising future.
Jamarj's life, though brief, was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, friendship, and family.
Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to Jamarj, a young soul taken too soon. Yet, we take solace in the indelible mark he has left on our lives. As we gather to celebrate his memory, we honor a life that, while brief, was filled with moments that will be cherished forever.
