Herman Smith Sr., affectionately known as "Bo", was born on March 25, 1935, to the late Bertha Mae Smith in Elmore County, AL. Herman later moved to Dallas County, AL with his maternal aunt, Melinda Olds whom he lovingly called “momma” until her death. Herman was named “Bo” at an early age, and everyone knew and called him “Bo Smith”.
Herman was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He was baptized at an early age and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. During his life in Dallas County, he attended Isabella Baptist Church of Tyler, AL, Town Creek Baptist Church, and New Sister Springs Baptist Church. Herman retired from Globe Metallurgical where he worked for over 30 years. He attended heavy equipment school in Homestead FL and was a certified heavy equipment operator. Herman also worked as a heavy equipment operator during the construction of the Cecil Jackson Bypass, currently known as the Selma Bypass.
Herman departed this life on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and went peacefully entering the presence of the Lord.

Walton Beach, FL, Peggy Watts and Wanda Jiles both of Tuscaloosa, AL, Phyllis Rivers of Little Rock, AR; Bothers-in-law: John Watts of Selma, AL, Michael Wilson and Ricky Wilson both of Ft. Walton Beach FL, Kevin Wilson of Pensacola, FL; Grandchildren, Erika (John) Julian of Millbrook, AL, Reginald Robinson, Bryan Robinson both of Selma, AL, Alexis Smith of Dallas, TX, Dominique Smith of San Antonio TX, Tara Cooper of Cleveland, OH, Elijah Hopkins of Clanton, AL, Kimberly Ellis, Dewayne Ellis, Keith Ellis, and Eric Ellis, all of Deatsville, AL; Great Grandchildren: Erin Morrow of San Antonio, TX, Precious Robinson of Ft. Lee, VA, JaKeria Robinson and MarKeria Robinson, both of Selma, AL, Cameron Montgomery, Jordan Julian, Makayla Julian all of Millbrook, AL; A special niece: Angelina (Marvin) Smiley of Selma, AL; Nephew: Eddie (Bessie) Allen, Jr. of Commerce, MI, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Herman was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Mae Smith, Melinda Olds; wife: Eloise Smith; first wife: Charlie Mae Smith; daughters: Carolyn Smith and Patty Cooper, and brother, Eddie Allen, Sr.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:00AM from Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend James Perkins, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion #1 Methodist Church Cemetery with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home of Selma, AL serving with excellence through professional service.
