George Franklin Johnson Jr. was born on March 12, 1953, in Lower Peach Tree, Alabama, to the late George F. Johnson Sr. and Lucille Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Allean Russell; his paternal grandmother, Daisy Mobley; his brother, McArthur Johnson; and his great-nephew, T.J. McNair. Affectionately known as “The Goat Man” by family and friends, George will be remembered for his vibrant spirit and love for life.

George accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Lane Chapel CME Church in Lower Peach Tree, Alabama. He graduated from Pine Hill Consolidated High School and later joined the Job Corps, where he excelled as a weightlifter. After completing Job Corps, George moved to Chicago and began a 13-year career with Pepsi-Cola as a delivery driver, then worked as a taxi driver and landscaper. Following his retirement, he returned home to Lower Peach Tree to help care for his mother.

George enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—gardening, keeping the grass on the hill perfectly trimmed, barbecuing, playing dominoes, and spending time with family and friends. His laughter and vibrant personality made every gathering unforgettable.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, George F. (Mariah) Johnson III of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter, Jennifer Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; two bonus children, Donald Stoute and Monique (David) Edmonds; one brother, James Russell; three sisters, Annie (Joseph) Morton, Georgia (Sandy) McCaskey, and Bessie (Homer) Davis; one grandson, Noah Johnson; and eight bonus grandchildren: David, Israel, Jeremiah, Zuriah, Isaiah, Elijah, Nathanael, and Baby Girl. He is also survived by two uncles, Charles (Delois) Russell and Edward (Barbara) Cheeseboro; two aunts, Patricia Russell Brown and Pearlean (George) Washington; a devoted nephew, Anthony “Craig” McCaskey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and friends who will deeply miss “The Goat Man.”

George’s journey reflected the profound truth that God delivers and sustains His children. Through trials, he found resilience and moments of joy, leaving behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who loved him. There is no doubt that George stood as a symbol of unity and family.
