Mrs. Evelyn Rose Steele,80,of Selma, AL a beacon of faith and love, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on November 7, 1944, in Tyler, Alabama, she was a cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend who lived her life with grace and kindness.

Evelyn was the beloved daughter of the late Mr. Henry and Mrs. Earlene Dawson Rose. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Freddie Steele, Sr., and her siblings Mary Emma Rose Irby, Lucille Rose Robinson, Alberta Rose, Samuel Rose, John Rose, and Arthur Rose. Her rich legacy continues through her loving family, including her daughters Priscilla Rose Lewis Moore and Dianne (Gabriel) Fair, both of Selma, Alabama, her son Freddie (Christine) Steele, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, her sisters Annie L. Rose Webster, Ethel Rose, Kathleen Rose, all of Birmingham, Alabama, and Mary Rose Brown of Selma, Alabama, her brothers R.C. (Gloria) Rose of Birmingham, Alabama, and Albert Rose of Selma, Alabama. She was a proud and doting grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and she was blessed to see the birth of a great-great-grandchild.

Evelyn's life was a testament to her unwavering faith. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Tyler, Alabama. After moving her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.L. Flowers and current pastor Rev. Joshua Davis, she continued to be a faithful servant. Her commitment to the church was evident in her dedicated service on the Senior Usher Board until her health began to decline.

Her work history and community involvement were marked by the same dedication and love she gave to her family and faith. Evelyn was a respected member of her community, where her presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to many. She was known for her warmth, her unwavering support of her friends and family, and her active participation in church and social groups.

Evelyn was a woman of many interests, but above all, she cherished the time spent with her loved ones. She had a special relationship with her family friend, Ms. Alonzia Pettway, and her life was enriched by the countless nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were drawn to her generous spirit.

The family would like to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation the care provided by Vaughan Regional Medical Center of Selma, AL, Jackson Hospital of Montgomery, AL, Grandview Medical Center, and ProHealth Hospice of Birmingham, AL. The support of the Shiloh Baptist Church family, Delois Johnson, Pride of Alabama Temple #919, and Guys & Girls Social Club has been a source of comfort and strength during this difficult time.

Evelyn Rose Steele was a woman of faith-filled virtue, whose life was a reflection of the values she held dear. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family and community, and her ability to touch the lives of everyone she met with her kindness and grace.

As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we are comforted by the knowledge that her legacy will live on through the lives she touched. May our God continue to smile on us today, tomorrow, and always, as we cherish the memory of Mrs. Evelyn Rose Steele.
