It is with deep sadness; we announce the passing of Etta Ruth Willis who departed this life on May 31, 2026, at 4:01AM at the age of 90.
Born on May 30, 1936, in Selma, AL to her parents Isaac Eugene and Rosetta Gordon Willis, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Dr. Isaac Eugene Willis, Jr, Geraldine Willis Smith, Celestine Willis Alston, Timothy Willis, and Dr. Edward D. Willis. The memories of their lives together will continue to be cherished by her surviving brother, Arthur D. Willis of Washington, D.C. and sister -in- law, Helen Roberts Willis of Montgomery, AL
Etta Ruth Willis graduated from R.B. Hudson Highs School in 1954. She continued her education at Selma University where she obtained an associate degree. Her quest for higher education led her to Chicago, IL where she received a certification in X-ray technology. This career path allowed her to work in healthcare settings in California and eventually Selma at Good Samaritan Hospital where she retired.
Sister Ruth Willis Confessed Christ at an early age and joined Protestant Grove A.M.E Church. She later joined Temple Gate Seven Day Adventist Church.
Sister Willis possessed a gentle presence and a servant’s heart. Her eagerness to serve made a lasting impact on her community and church family. She was a strong supporter of various church ministries and faithfully gave her time, talents, and encouragement without seeking recognition for her service. One of her greatest joys was her time spent in the nursing home ministry. Her participation in this ministry group allowed her to bring comfort, love and joy to the residents through music and fellowship which brought her great joy
Her life was a testimony that some of the most meaningful ministry is accomplished from a servant’s heart; working in the background.
Ms. E. Ruth Willis, 90, of Selma, AL passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
