Derrick L Fuller

Mr. Derrick L. Fuller, 55, of Fircrest, WA passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma, AL.  Graveside services have been scheduled for Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 12Noon from the Pineview Memory Gardens with Pastor Coley Chestnut, officiating and Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service.

Derrick Lewis Fuller was born on July 28, 1965, to James C. Fuller and Dessie Threatt Fuller in Sylacauga, Alabama.  He was the 6th child born to this union and the last one born into a blended family of twelve. He was always known as the “Baby Brother" although he eventually towered over every one of his sisters and brothers in his more than six-foot frame. 

While back in Selma for his brother Tony’s funeral, Derrick transitioned to his eternal home on Thursday, May 20, 2021.  “Home Again”

Derrick accepted Christ at an early age and joined his mother and other siblings at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama. After his mother’s death, he often worshiped with his grandmother Mrs. Minnie Lee Swain of Sylacauga at Union Baptist Church.

He was educated in the Selma City Schools and the Sylacauga City School Systems.  After graduating from Sylacauga High School in 1982, he joined the United States Navy where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2003.   He retired as Chief Petty Officer, leaving a career that included four (4) overseas tours and eight (8) years at sea.  Also during his service, he earned numerous achievement and commendation awards including five Good Conduct awards, the Southwest Asia Services medals, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal

Derrick is preceded in death by his parents: James C. Fuller and Dessie Threatt Fuller; five brothers:  Charles Edward Fuller, Reginald Trent Fuller, Marvin Gene Threatt, James Harold Threatt and Tony Michael Threatt; two sisters:  Edwina Gail Fuller and Marian Threatt Brown.

He is survived by  six sons:  Domonique Jemere Fuller, Dexter James Fuller, Cameron Scot Wilson (Sylacauga, Alabama), Andrew Lockridge, Darius Lynn Fuller, and Edward James Fuller (all of Washington State): four sisters:  Earlene Threatt Larkin, Jacqueline Fuller Menifee, Julia Fuller (Selma, Alabama) and; Brenda Threatt Green (Sylacauga, Alabama); a lifelong partner Deb; one grandson Noah James Lockridge; two individuals he held in high esteem as mentors and persons he honored helped him learn about manhood; Aubrey Larkin, Sr. of Selma, Alabama and Homer Green of Sylacauga, Alabama.

Cherishing his memories are also many relatives and friends from Sylacauga, Alabama, Washington State, Detroit Michigan, as well as Navy “brothers” from all over the United States.
