Willie James Wheeler was born on October 18, 1947, in Selma, AL to the late Jeff Davis and the late Viola Scales.
Willie’s life was a true testament of love, compassion, and kindness toward others. He deeply cared for his family, church, and community. By trade, he was a truck driver in the logging business.
Willie used his talent to praise God through singing with the Burnsville Male Chorus, Pleasant Valley Choir and Male Chorus, and the Country Boys.
He answered God’s call on May 20, 2026 at his home.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Paul and Otis Young; and his sister: Callie Norris.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 39 years, Carmel Peoples Wheeler; his sons, Perry (Jamease) Dennis, Daniel (Jami) Peoples, and Antonio Adkins; his daughters, Barbara (Ricky) Caver and Kashilisa Peoples; his bonus daughter, Josephine Bennett. He also leaves behind his ride-or-die partner, Yakisha Peoples; his sisters, Delores Samuels, and Linda Ashford; his brothers-in-law, William Peoples and Benny Peoples; his sister-in-law, May Peoples. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
A special acknowledgment is extended to his driving partner, Ballhead Crenshaw.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11:00AM from the Eylton Baptist Church with Reverend Steven Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Churchyard Cemetery with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service. Deacon Wheeler will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church.
