Donald Jerome Holmes was born on October 3, 1956 in Autauga County, AL to the late John Holmes, Sr. and Prevella Holmes.

Duck was always a great father, brother, uncle, granddad, and friend. You could always count on him for his steady faithfulness and his unfailing loyalty.

Growing up in Autauga County, he graduated from Autaugaville High School where he excelled and played many sports throughout his childhood including baseball and basketball. He continued to flex his skills enjoying basketball on a regular basis.

At an early age, he joined and served at the Figtree Baptist Church. Upon moving to Selma and building his adult life, he became a faithful member at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. While serving over the years, he became an integral part of the Deacon Board, Brotherhood, Usher Board, and Transportation Ministry.

He worked a full career as a supervisor at Bush Hog and recently retired from a supervisory position at Isoclima.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Holmes, Sr and Prevella Holmes; three brothers: John, Gene, and Freddie Holmes; sister, Marcella Steele.

Blessed are they that cherish his memories: His children: Andre Terrell Holmes of Montgomery, AL, Monique Alesia Holmes, and Amber Nicole Holmes, both of Atlanta, GA; stepdaughter CaRhonda Holmes of Atlanta, GA; brothers Eddie (Alfinder) Holmes of Detroit, MI, Norman (Genean) Howard of Jones, AL; grandchildren Dre and Kennedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:00AM from the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend James Perkins, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in the Serenity Memorial Gardens with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service. Deacon Holmes will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church.
