Deacon Jake Curtis was born on November 15, 1960, to the late Annie Delores and Robert Curtis, Sr. in Selma, Alabama. He was the tenth of eleven children to this union; he learned early on the importance of resilience and community.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the New Shiloh Baptist Church in Marion Junction, Alabama, where he was nurtured under the compassionate leadership of Reverend Dan Moore. His journey of faith led him to unite with St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, where he served diligently as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry under Rev. Earl L. Callaway. Jake's commitment to his church continued under the guidance of Rev. Ken Jelks, and he remained a pillar of strength and support until his passing.

Jake Curtis answered the call home on Monday, June 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by brothers: Eddie West, Robert Curtis Jr., David William Curtis, Clarence Curtis, and George Curtis, along with his beloved sister, Doris Curtis Pope.

He leaves to cherish his memory: grandchildren, Za'Niah Dallas, Ashtian Wells, and Skylar Wells; sisters: Dasie Curtis of Decatur, GA, Francine Wade, Elizabeth Allen, and Annie Browder, all of Selma, AL, and Cassandra Harville of Riverdale, GA. He is also remembered by his aunt, Survella Curtis, one uncle, Jim Curtis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched in profound ways.

Jake's legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to share in his life
