Born near Selma, Alabama, on February 28, 1935, Harvey Peterson was the son of the late Sam and Jessie Mae Peterson.

Young Harvey was full of energy and ambition, and he cherished the opportunity to attend school. However, his education was frequently set aside, as he was often needed to work, a duty that often superseded his eagerness to learn.

It was on a sweltering August day, within the aisles of the Yellow Front store in downtown Selma, that Harvey's eyes met Christine Minter's, the woman who would become his wife. A year later, on August 9, 1957, Harvey and Christine married, and soon after, they were blessed with two bouncing baby boys, Harvey Jr. and Jesse Peterson.

Driven by the desire to create a better life for his children, Harvey sought opportunity in California. There, he dedicated himself to raising his family and working diligently. He found success in California's furniture factories, crafting pieces that can still be found in homes today. Later in his career, Harvey became a truck driver. In retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit blossomed as he established a lawn service, beautifying his neighborhood and the surrounding areas.

While Harvey enjoyed the sounds of Motown and loved to dance, his desire was to lead his family closer to the Lord. They became members of Palma Ceia Baptist Church in Hayward, California, where he guided his family through Bible studies and regular Sunday worship. Later, Harvey made a thoughtful decision to move back to, Alabama, to be closer to family and friends. During this time, he joined the fellowship of Saint James Holt Crossing Baptist Church. It was at Saint James that he was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Pastor Freddrick Hardy, passionately serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board. On Monday, May 12, 2025, Harvey peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home, where he received perfect and complete healing.

Harvey is preceded in death by 7 brothers and 5 sisters who have welcomed him into his Heavenly home. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Christine; his two sons, Harvey Jr. of Los Angeles, California, and Jesse of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; a sister, Carrie Cowan (Tryouine) Stockbridge, GA,  along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and other devoted family members.
