Deacon Bernard Leavel Sears was born to the late Patricia Ann Sears and Billy Priester on May 10, 1968, in Palm Beach County, Florida. Bernard confessed Christ at an early age, where he joined New Bethel AME, South Bay, FL. Bernard graduated from Glades Central Community High School in Belle Glade, Florida in 1986. He then attended Selma University where he played basketball and met the love of his life and soulmate Teresa Weaver. Bernard began to work in the construction industry as a pipefitter, journeyman, and foreman for twenty-two years.
Bernard was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and family man. He was a faithful servant of Christ as a deacon at the Church of Demonstration, Selma, Alabama. He was ordained deacon on November 16, 2025.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Loving wife of 27 years Teresa D. Sears. Three children: Kemard T. Sears, Tiara P. Sears, and Logan E. Agee. A granddaughter: Kaycie Sears. His twin sister Beatrice Sears (South Bay, FL) and brother Pastor Gregory (Carmen) Williams of Clewiston, FL. Five Uncles: Dudley (Lavorris), Willie Priester, Charles Priester, Issac Winters, and Alton Winters. Two Aunts: JoAnn Sears and Julia Mackey. Mother-in-law: Eula C. Weaver. Three sisters-in-law:
Barbara Hill, Yolanda (Zavier) Cofield of Hope Mills, NC, Anita (Earnest Jr.) Craig and one brother-in-law: Rico Strong. Extended family Caylynn King and Cairo Shine. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00AM from the Church of Demonstration (formerly Second Missionary Baptist Church) with Pastor Davon Simpson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Memorial Gardens with Aubrey Larkin's Lewis Brothers Funeral Home serving with excellence through professional service. Dea. Sears will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church.
