Mr. Alfred Charles Blackmon, Jr., known as “Al” and “Father Blackmon“ to all that knew him, departed this life on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Vaughan Regional Hospital, Selma, Alabama.  Al was born July 16, 1955, to Alfred Charles Blackmon, Sr., and Ludie Wright Blackmon in Selma, Alabama.

Al was educated in the Selma City School system followed by enlistment in the United States Army. Upon returning to Selma after his discharge from the United States Army, he was employed by the federal government at Craig Air Force Base, Selma, Alabama. After the closing of Craig Air Force Base, he followed in his father’s footsteps in launching his next lifelong career path in transportation. He became a taxi driver at Deluxe Cab Company, #64. In later years, he founded Triple A Transportation because of his love and compassion for helping others. He also owned other entrepreneurial businesses that allowed him to continue surrounding himself with people, something he had a genuine passion for.

Al’s life was a testament of love, compassion and kindness towards others. He cared deeply for his family, church, community, and civic organization. His philosophy about life was to   live as God’s word ordered, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Al has left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path during his time of life.

Al was proceeded in death by his parents Alfred Charles Blackmon, Sr., and Ludie Wright Blackmon; granddaughter, Carson A. Blackmon; sister, Jacqueline Blackmon Maxey; in-laws, Herman Melton, Jr., Eugene and Delia Melton Norfleet; sister; sister-in-law Jeannette Melton Lee.

He is tenderly remembered by his loving and devoted wife Beverly Melton Blackmon, his loving sons, Ken (Virginia) T. Melton (Clinton, MD), Anthony (Ferna) C. Blackmon (Selma, AL), Adrian (Paula) C. Blackmon (Montgomery, AL); his loving daughters, Mildred Sims Murray (Millbrook, AL), and Dana (Henry) Sigmon Ramsey (Selma, AL); his loving grandsons, Destin Horstead (Millbrook, AL), Davonte Ramsey (Selma, AL), Dajordan K.
